Sports nutrition is an important factor for all athletes. A key driving factor for sports men and woman is to improve their performance in their discipline. Sport performance is largely determined by genetic potential, training, and psychological drive. Nutrition can be one of those ‘X’ factors that can take performance to the next level. Improving your baseline diet and implementing a calculated nutrition strategy can result in more efficient training, improve recovery and adaptions to training, and enhanced performance gains.

What is your baseline diet & nutrition strategy?

Your baseline diet is what you eat every day to support you’re training and general nutrition requirements. By taking into account the sport that you do, your current training, your body composition goals and your health, I can develop a baseline diet that will ensure that you meet your goals. It will address the ratios’ of your macronutrient intake and the timing of your food intake and improve your body composition by increasing muscle mass and reducing fat mass. By reducing fat mass and increasing muscle mass you improve your power-to-weight ratio which significantly improves performance.

Your nutrition strategy is something that is practiced during certain parts of your training to reflect what you would do during competition. It aims to prepare you to perform at your best during your completion/race. It would address pre, during and post competition nutrition as well as be specific to you and your dietary needs.

What does the assessment include?

• The sports nutrition assessment includes anthropometric measurements such as weight, height, waist circumference and body composition measurements using skin fold callipers.
• It also includes a medical history, family history, relevant blood results, lifestyle history and diet history.
• Training programs will be recorded so it is useful to have these available.
• Nutrition advice will be given according to your goals and what we can do to improve your nutrition in order to enhance your performance.
• A nutrition plan will be calculated which will include a baseline diet and a nutrition strategy. The nutrition plan and strategy will be specific to you, you’re training pattern, your food preferences and your lifestyle. The idea is to follow the plan as strictly as possible in order to achieve the best results.
